Context

The series was shot in District 6, Cape Town, a neighborhood that was forcibly cleared during apartheid and never fully rebuilt. The architecture is still there, the streets are still there, but the people aren't. It's a place that feels suspended.

I brought one element of color into it: a red organza piece, constructed and styled to stand completely against the surroundings. Everything in the frame is muted except for that. The tension between the two is what the series is built on.
